I think my top three favorite things about Christmas are
1) celebration of the birth of Christ
2) presents
3) the lengthening of days
And when I get overwhelmed with the first two, and contemplate never looking forward to Christmas again, I can remind myself that, 'hey, after Christmas, the days will get noticeably longer, isn't that great?'
Before Christianity added the other two elements, non-christians or "pagans" celebrated at this time as a signal for brighter, longer days in the future, and that is what I intend to do as well.
