Sacrifice and Obligation

In church today I took the time to list all the scripture/publishings that we are told to study daily.

Book of Mormon 30-60 mins/day
Bible
D&C
Pearl of Great Price
Preach My Gospel
Current Ensign
most recent Conference talks
Sunday School Lesson

Not only do "they" say we should read each of these individually but as a family as well.

WHAT?!

Add to this additional admonitions to do genealogy, temple work, service, VT and HT and fulfill callings.

It's almost enough to make you give up eh?

When I showed my list to Ben, he wrote the following
"In order to be saved you need to do this every day, for at least 31 hours."
and I wrote "and go to the temple and understand it"
he continued, "and baptize 14 friends/week"

That's really eerie- I came to this exact realization about a month ago. But it was just in my head; seeing it written down makes it look even more daunting. And I'm worried because I've only baptised four friends this week and spent 25 hours reading daily.

Oh, and you forgot the priesthood/RF lesson in addition to sunday school.

When she wrote it down during the meeting, the priesthood/RS lesson was on the list. So it must have gotten left off during transcription.

There's a link to the anniversary gifts chart on my blog. My "links' list is titled "Go To". Or you can just use this link: http://www.findgift.com/Anniversary-Table/

I love you, most sincerely. For that, you only have to baptize 12 friends/week.

I actually had this same realization this week. And mine was just about the fact that I can't study Ensign, scriptures, and Preach my Gospel all in one day for a substantial amount of time. I forgot about all the other stuff!

I think you've just outlined the premise for "Believing Christ" by Stephen Robinson.

Now Tom wants me to read "Believing Christ" too. Nice Tom, nice.

Ha ha! Yes, and don't forget to continue feeling guilty for all the things you aren't doing.

If you had been reading the latest conference Ensign, you would remember Elder Oaks spoke about "good, better, and best." Everything you listed is at least good, but depending on your circumstances and the promptings you get from the Spirit one or two of the things on the list probably has far superior import to you at the time.

The brethren are less concerned that you memorize the standard works, and more hopeful that these assignments will whet your appetite.

They want you to develop a hunger and thirst for the word of God.

I'm with thaddeus. Baptizing 12 friends a week is good, and 14 friends a week is better, but really.....would not an infinite number of friends be best?
